sundown

I took my camera out in a water housing for the first time tonight. The waves weren't anything flash, in fact I think we were the only people surfing, but we still had a rippa of a time.

luke taaffe

Luke Taaffe is a gifted artist, and lover. He draws great inspiration from surf, life, road trips, fashion; specifically Pucci print. His use of colour and fine detail is breathtaking.

I first came across Luke's work when I moved down the coast and attended a surf art exhibition called Wax Off. I was introduced to Luke early in the evening through mutual friend, Ryan Heywood, and thought he seemed like nice enough everyday fella. I worked my way through the pieces in the exhibition and eventually came across a work that blew my mind. An 'egg' shaped surfboard, with a painting on it so detailed and intriguing I couldn't stop talking about it for the whole 1 hour drive home in  the car. See it here. I didn't realise Luke had painted this piece until I went to his house one day and saw it in the living room. "Well fuck me", I thought. "This guys a guru".

Every house needs a Luke Taaffe painting in it.

dreams

Before I moved to the coast I lived in the city. At every opportunity, myself and my friend Chook, would load up the car to head coastal for a few days. We had the keys to this little beach house, which a friend of mine owned. In return for free weekend stays we would keep the lawns mowed, bins emptied and house clean. It was a remarkably ideal little situation we had, and the ideas dreamed up over surfing, beer and music have come to life over the years that followed. A period of time that I'm grateful for.

half full

In modern times where computer phones, anti-barking collars and non-iron shirts are the norm, I think a skateboard ramp is still the coolest thing to have in your backyard.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder.

everyones invited

Well weren't we just happy little vegemites on Sunday. The sun was to our back, small little peelers to our right, and 10 foot of foam sled glory under our feet. A couple of hours in the water washed away any 9 to 5 regrets for the week, and lunch is always all that more tasty when your lips are hinted with sea salt.

I tucked my 35mm GoPro into my wetty, loaded with B&W 400 speed. A delicious make of film. I love the stuff.
