for kicks

Some photographs from the last few months, playing around with the ocean and a camera.

seascapes and spirals

I'm really enjoying these little seascapes at the moment. The point where the sea and sky meet to form the horizon has me spellbound. Whilst post processing these style photos, I often find myself swept away with mindless enchantment, and after extended periods of staring and eventual cross-eyed-blurriness, I have to remind myself of what I was doing. An occupational hazard of great satisfaction.

I must admit, I am a little disappointed with the bottom shot, wishing it was a little crisper. It was so cool watching the bird fly toward the unknown man with great purpose. It would have been beautiful to see it from the man's perspective. Or even cooler from the birds perspective for that matter! Though in saying that I was disappointed, I'm grateful for the sunrise I witnessed rather than staying in bed. Give and take I guess. :-)

voyeur

My intrigue with the ocean is not exclusive to my personal surfing pursuits, but also the relationship other individuals share with it. Watching a true waterman negotiate such an expanse of water and raw power is a simple, yet mesmerising joy.

cows, grass, ocean, wine and love

The open fire eventually did roar at the Johanna Beach cottage, situated amongst lush green hills a good 4 hour drive from stress, careers and expectations. Red wine was generously poured from black and red cardboard casks as the conversation grew louder and the toothy grins brighter.

From the cottage, The Great Southern Ocean could often be spotted peering through the point where grassy hills met, and also proved a challenging playground for those armed with fishing rods and surf craft.
